About Dr. Ruth A. Lawrence

Eligibility Criteria

Nominees should have a sustained record of leadership, service, and commitment to the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine and meet the following criteria:

  • Be an actively practicing or retired medical doctor.
  • Be a member of the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine.
  • Exemplary service and leadership within ABM.
  • Significant contributions to the organization's reputation, growth, and development.
  • A demonstrated commitment to fostering and mentoring future leaders within ABM.
  • Significant service through regional and/or direct ABM volunteer activities.

Dr. Ruth A. Lawrence was the inaugural recipient of the Dr. Ruth A. Lawrence Distinguished Leadership Service Award. Her son, Robert M. Lawrence, MD, accepted the award on her behalf from then-ABM President Elien Rouw, MD FABM, during the 2024 ABM Annual International Meeting.
